5 things to do this weekend, regardless of the weather

January was already long without Poseidon throwing every storm and bad bit of weather our way. Alas, we can still make the most of it and here are 5 things to do this weekend that are not weather dependant.

  1. Graffiti Battles at the Marina Market

Cork is one of the best street art destinations in Europe at the moment and this is most likely due to the incredible talent that we have right on our doorstep. Every weekend in January (and finals in Feb) they are hosting some of the best graffiti artists from around Dublin to compete. Its free to view and its completely mesmerising. Completely suitable for kids and a good way to get your daily dose of culture. Join us this Saturday from 12.30 pm.

2. Paddle Tennis

Apparently the fastest growing sport in the world at the moment. Many people jumping on this bandwagon, even buying the full racket and gear after one game. Not judging, we like the enthusiasm. Cork has one of the largest Paddle facilities in Ireland located in Carrigtwohill. A very enjoyable sport, easy to learn and play for any age and ability.

3. Healthy cooking demo in the Farmshop with Chef Jack O’Keefe

Make your Veggies IncrEdible. Chef Jack O’Keefe is going to bring you through a free demo in the Farmshop this Saturday at 12pm (27th of Jan). Jack will be making delicious Harissa & Nut Butter Roasted Cauliflower with Young Broccoli and Herby Bulgar Wheat. Anyone on their health kick will seriously enjoy this interactive demo. Entry is free and no reservation is required.

4. Street Art Tour

As previously mentioned, Street Art is huge in Cork. Thats down to a few factors but a major influence is the Ardú - Corks Contemporary street art project. These guys have funded some jaw dropping pieces around Cork and have also created a map / tour to see the best of the best.

Click here to get the map or click here for the audio tour.

This is again an amazing thing to do to pass some time and its completely free. Its a great way to see the city too. Two pieces in cork stand out to me the most. The hurler was created by Aches, who has famously gone on to re-created the infamous puffin of the Guinness storehouse.

:What is Home” is another incredible piece created by Asbestos, highlighting the housing crisis in Ireland at the moment.

5. Ballyhoura Bike Trails

One of Corks best activities in my opinion. (I know we said weather dependant but mixed weather can actually make this a lot more fun). The Ballyhoura trail spans over 90km and is immaculate and diverse in terms of trails. There is something for everyone, beginners to advanced riders.

You can rent all your gear at the shop on site and takes no time at all to get up on the mountain and start flying around. You pick your own pace and the more you go, the more adventurous you become. A fantastic day out with friends or family.
